Ways to maintain health when playing games

Media generally tend to overestimate the risk of playing video games. In China, video games are even blamed for the decline in children’s health in the country. But at the same time, gamers themselves must also admit that sitting in a chair and staring at the screen for hours every day may be good for the brain, but not for the body.
Fortunately, keeping healthy and fit when playing games is not difficult. Here are some easy ways to ensure that your physical condition does not decrease.

1. Rest
Playing games for a long time is not good for the body, and sometimes it’s not so good for your performance in playing. Every few hours, take at least ten or fifteen minutes to get up, move, and focus on things other than games for a while. You will find that when you return you will be a little fresher, and consciously or not, maybe playing better.

2. Sports when loading / dead / pause
If you really want to be healthy when playing games, this is the easiest way to do it without having to change your schedule. Almost every game that you play has a pause, such as a lobby to wait, wait for life again after death, or a loading screen when moving from one screen or area to another. Use this time to do a short exercise.
Because exercise is not a fun activity for everyone, it can also be used as a way to motivate yourself to play better. If you hate doing push-ups, but you start doing it often because you often die when playing Dota, you will gradually play better or less often die. All forms of fast sports that do not require tools are a good choice of activities.

3. Sports when playing: games that require movement
If you have a game system that can track motion (like kinect), then there are many games that can make you exercise while playing. My advice, play dancing or sports games; You are guaranteed to sweat but remain entertained.
If you have a lot of money, there are also sophisticated options like Omni. Indeed, not many people want to spend USD 500 on accessories like that. But if you are one of the few people, then that might be the best way to stay healthy when playing games.

4. Sports when playing games: aerobics
If you have an aerobic bike at home, then you can play almost all single-player games while using it. I myself can finish the Dishonored game while doing this. Indeed, because your hands are busy with the controller, your exercise will not be as effective as it should be. But at least it’s better than just sitting and not moving at all.
(If you are a very sophisticated person, I have also seen people connect their bicycles to a computer so as to make the bike function as one of the buttons to play games. A great idea, but difficult to realize. But there are some products that claim to do the same thing. even though I don’t know how good the quality is.)
If you don’t have an aerobic bike in the room, you can still play mobile games while using an aerobics bicycle at the nearest gym. You certainly want to play a simple game. But anyway, this can be done. I’ve done it a lot, using aerobic bikes while playing games like Jetpack Joyride and plants vs.. Zombies on my smartphone.

5. Gamify your sport
This one requires considerable self-control. You can set targets to give yourself time to play games, or other rewards related to the game. For example, I would not allow myself to play games until I finished exercising that day. I often feel lazy at sports, but I always want to play games. So, I forced myself to exercise as a way to allow myself to play games. This is actually just a psychological trick – nothing can prevent me from playing games even if I don’t exercise other than myself – so this might not be the way that suits you. But creating a separate system that encourages you to exercise by rewarding games is not a bad idea.
